Around the world on 50 tankfuls of fuel - In the Golf FSI 1.6
On 17 January 2006 the most economical drivers in the world, John and Helen Taylor, started out on a journey around the world. Their aim was to enter the Guinness Book of Records for the most economical round-the-world car journey ever, using no more than 50 tankfuls of fuel, and at the same time win the Shell Fuel Economy Challenge.
In meeting the challenge the team are relying not just on their longstanding experience and on the top-class fuel provided by Shell, but also on an extremely well-proven car. Their Golf FSI 1.6 is economical and able to cope with any road situation it might encounter, however tricky - in any of the trip's 25 countries, across all four continents.
